As you can tell from reading my blog, I love to talk about hotels. When we travel, where we stay can have such an impact on our trip. If you really love your hotel, then the trip is usually much better. Your hotel is like your home, it’s where you come back to every evening and wake up each morning (hopefully ;).
When I travel, I try to seek out interesting hotels. I’m not talking about big, all-inclusive resort chains. I’m talking about the family-owned boutique hotels and the off-the-radar spots that you don’t hear about every day. Each of these hotels provides such a unique experience and tells such a different story while providing a great sense of escape. I’ve been staying at hotels like this my whole life and I love discovering them!
On a recent trip to the Caribbean island of St. Barth’s, I wanted to check out a fairly new hotel called Villa Marie. Family owned by a French family with other properties in France who decided to spread their roots to the Caribbean. Villa Marie is a bohemian tropical paradise perched high up on the hill looking over beautiful Flamand’s Beach. There are 18 private bungalows spread out over the lush tropical grounds. The interior design is rich and playful – think bright pops of yellow, pineapple and palm tree prints and raffia light fixtures. The pool is divine – a private oasis surrounded with palm trees, bougainvillea and a few friendly parrots squawking in the background. It’s really quite glamorous. You can also stay in one of the hotel’s villas with private pool overlooking the incredible ocean scenery. I’m already wishing I was back here.
